Staples Canada Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Days by Presenting Dedicated Teacher with Grand Prize of 2012 Toyota Prius v

Aurora Resident Drives Away with Versatile Hybrid Crossover Vehicle that has the Highest Fuel Efficiency of any Sport or Crossover Utility Vehicle
RICHMOND HILL, ON, December 21, 2011 –
Staples Canada has made this a dream holiday season for Aurora teacher Shelley Wister-Smith, who was presented Wednesday with the keys to a new 2012 Toyota Prius v, the grand prize of Staples’ recent Teacher Appreciation Days promotion.
“I shop at Staples all the time. I shop for everything – things I need as well as the students,” said the high school teacher. “I was shocked when I found out I won. I’m so excited it hasn’t even sunk in yet. It probably won’t happen until I sit in the car and start driving it.”
This was the first time Staples Canada awarded prizes in conjunction with its teacher appreciation event, which allows educators to save by making purchases on certain days. In this most recent promotion, teachers saved up to 25%, with 15% off their entire in-store purchases, 10% back in easyRewards savings, plus a free gift.
In addition to the 2012 Toyota Prius v (base manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $27,200 CAD), several other great prizes were also given away. These winners were:
  • Caribbean cruises (4) – Sherri Coulter (Newmarket, ON); Kathy Boonie (Calgary, AB); Susan Hopkins (Guelph, ON); and Johanne Laflamme (Mascouche, QC)
  •  HP laptop bundle (1) – Robin Barnes (Welland, ON)
  • $100 Staples gift cards (4) – Karen Relcewicz (Winnipeg, MB); Caroline Gaudet (Mille-Isles, QC); Michelle Kobylnik (Barrie, ON); and Christopher Coyne (Richmond Hill, ON)
The next round of Teacher Appreciation Days begins in early 2012, with the event running on January 7, 8, 14 and 15. This time teachers will have the chance to win a spring break getaway through an online contest. Visit for more details.
“Supporting education is a key priority at Staples so Teacher Appreciation Days is a very important event for us,” said Rick Atkinson, Vice President of Marketing for Staples, Canada. “It’s extremely gratifying that we can reward the dedication of the country’s talented teachers with substantial discounts for them, while also celebrating their excellence with some great prizes. The Prius v was a particularly special grand prize because it represents the future of environmentally-friendly vehicles.”
When Ms. Wister-Smith gets behind the wheel of her new SUV, she will discover that the all-new versatile 2012 Prius v crossover not only takes high fuel efficiency, low emissions and environmental leadership to a new level, it’s also  very comfortable with lots of room for people and 50% more cargo capacity.
“Building on Toyota’s leadership in quality, safety and sustainability, the Prius v is a showcase of new innovation and technology,” said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director at Toyota Canada Inc. “No SUV, crossover or wagon on the market is as fuel-efficient as the Prius v and it produces 66 per cent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle. But it also has some exciting features and is very versatile, with a choice of different driving modes, from electric power alone or a limited drive voltage, to eco mode for a serene drive, to power mode for a more fun driving experience.”
