Upgraded equipment, upgraded options packages highlight 2013 Toyota 4Runner

Authentic SUV delivers rugged go-anywhere capability and fun for up to seven people

(TORONTO, ON – September 11, 2012) The 4Runner helped establish Toyota’s reputation for building trucks that conquer the toughest weather and driving conditions on the planet. And the tradition continues with the rugged and capable 2013 Toyota 4Runner – enhanced with electronic four-wheel-drive selection system on most models, a new audio system, and upgraded options packages.

“This year, we offer the 4Runner buyer more value and more choice – including a choice of five- or seven-person configurations of our very popular, top trim level Toyota 4Runner Limited,” noted Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director, Toyota Canada Inc. “Whether it’s the 4Runner SR5 or a 4Runner enhanced with one of four available options packages, Canadian drivers know they can count on Toyota for an authentic, powerful SUV that delivers quality and dependability, day in and day out.”

Every 2013 Toyota 4Runner features a proven and reliable 4.0 Liter V6 that delivers a peak 270 horsepower and up to 278 lb-ft of torque. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, Sequential Multiport Electronic Fuel Injection and other systems maximize power and efficiency, while the battery, starter, alternator and heater are all heavy-duty models designed for durability and reliable performance.

All drive trains feature a five-speed automatic Super ECT transmissions with overdrive, lock up torque converter and dedicated transmission cooler, plus on-demand four-wheel drive with an automatic disconnecting differential for seamless, on-the-fly shifting between rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive. This configuration delivers a combined city/highway fuel efficiency of 11.2 L / 100 KM.

The 4Runner’s suspension system delivers offroad driving confidence, while providing a surprisingly comfortable ride on the open road. Up front, an independent double-wishbone system features shock absorbers, coil springs and a stabilizer bar. At the back, a four-link suspension with shocks and springs is enhanced with a stabilizer bar.

Meantime, special underbody plates protect the engine, fuel tank and transfer case from off-road hazards.

Safety is always standard on a Toyota, so every 4Runner features eight airbags (dual-stage driver and front passenger, driver and front passenger knee, front seat mounted side, and roll-sensing front and rear head/side curtain) plus Active Front Headrests with Whiplash Protection, anchor points for child seats, child protector rear door locks, and a direct tire pressure monitoring system. As with every new Toyota since 2011, the 2013 4Runner is also standard equipped with the six active safety technologies of the Star Safety System: Antilock Brake System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Active Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology work together to help drivers avoid potential accident situations. Additional handling and control technologies include Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control.
