Feeling Range Anxiety? Fear not, Toyota Is Featuring Two Zero Emissions Vehicles That Deliver Real World Stress-Free Driving at AJAC’s 2017 EcoRun

TORONTO, ON – June 14, 2017 – The all-new 2017 Toyota Prius Prime goes the distance – and is ready to prove that claim during EcoRun – the annual showcase of advanced technology vehicles organized by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. Already crowned the World Green Car at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, the Prius Prime is, according to Natural Resources Canada the most fuel efficient vehicle on the road, and offers a total package of great value.

The Prius Prime will be joined by the Toyota Mirai – a production-model Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle that took part in its first EcoRun last year. Both models demonstrate Toyota’s approach to the decarbonization of the automobile. Their ranges, whether pure EV or EV-hybrid, will leave you in awe. Toyota is committed to helping societies reduce their greenhouse gas emissions is part of the company’s long-term global Environmental Challenge 2050, which includes the New Vehicle Zero Emissions Challenge, aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions of new vehicles by 90 per cent compared to 2010 levels, plus five other climate change and natural resource recycling initiatives.

Available exclusively in Quebec, the all-new Prius Prime is Toyota’s most fuel-efficient hybrid to date and starts at a mere $32,990 National MSRP ($35,204 all-in Quebec price before the $4,000 Québec provincial rebate). More still, it is almost $3,000 less than the Prius plug-in model that it replaces.  This plug-in electric model with room for four adults offers futuristic style, advanced technology, and an ultra-efficient power train that allows drivers to travel more than 40 kilometres in pure electric mode (which satisfies most commutes) while allowing them to go further to more than 1,000 kilometres on a single tank of gas and a full battery charge. And drivers can relax, knowing that even if they run out of electric charge, Prius Prime’s ultra-efficient gasoline-electric hybrid system will get them to their destination, every time.

Built around the Toyota New Global Architecture platform and an all-new Hybrid Synergy Drive, the Prius Prime boasts Toyota’s first use of a dual motor-generator drive system to boost acceleration, plus a new Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine that achieves ground-breaking thermal efficiency of more than 40 percent.

The Toyota Mirai returns to EcoRun for a second straight year, and is now part of a cross-Canada awareness campaign on the benefits of FCEVs. This hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle has a range of approximately 480 kilometres and a refilling time of about five minutes. The Mirai’s fuel tank stores hydrogen, which is mixed with air in the fuel cell stack. The resultant chemical reaction produces two things: electricity and water. The electricity powers the vehicle, while the water leaves through the tailpipe as Mirai’s only emission.
