Toyota Canada conducting two safety recalls involving certain Toyota Prius, C-HR, and Corolla Hybrid vehicles

TORONTO, ON – December 11, 2019 – Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) is conducting two safety recalls involving certain Toyota Prius, C-HR, and Corolla Hybrid vehicles. The first recall involves certain 2019 Model Year Prius vehicles in Canada, and the second involves certain 2019-2020 Model Year Toyota C-HR and 2020 Model Year Corolla Hybrid vehicles in Canada.

Combination Meter Recall

TCI is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2019 Prius vehicles. Approximately 20 vehicles are involved in this recall.

An electrical short circuit in the combination meter could occur, causing the speedometer, the odometer, and the fuel gauge to become inoperative. If the speedometer and the fuel gauge are inoperative, this condition may not meet certain federal safety standards and could increase the safety risk by diverting the driver’s attention from the driving task.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will check the combination meter in the vehicles, and, if found to be potentially affected, will replace the combination meter circuit board, with a new one at no cost to customers.

Toyota will notify owners by early February 2020.

Seat Belt Recall

TCI is conducting a safety recall involving certain C-HR and Corolla Hybrid vehicles. Approximately 907 vehicles are involved in this recall.

The subject vehicles are equipped with rear seat belt assemblies that have two types of locking mechanisms.  One of the locking mechanisms may not have been assembled correctly in certain seat belts.  This can cause an occupant to not be restrained properly in certain crashes, increasing the risk of injury.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will inspect the rear seat belt assemblies and replace any affected seat belt assemblies with new ones at no cost to customers.

Toyota will notify owners by early February 2020.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is subject to change over time.  For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting toyota.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
