Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Toyota vehicles

TORONTO, Ontario – February 2nd, 2023 – Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2021 model year Toyota RAV4 Prime vehicles in Canada. Approximately 4,545 vehicles are involved in this recall.

The Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU (HEV-ECU) in the subject plug-in hybrid electric vehicles contains software that could cause the hybrid system to shut down after driving continuously in “EV mode” in cold temperatures and then the accelerator pedal is rapidly pressed to further accelerate the vehicle. System shut down with loss of motive power at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will update the software in the Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU (HEV-ECU) at no cost to customers.

Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by early April 2023.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. For the most up-to-date Safety Recall Information on Toyota and Lexus vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting Toyota.ca/recall or lexus.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
