TORONTO, December 10, 2024 – In the truck community, the Toyota 4Runner is a legend – with a rock-solid reputation built over the past four decades. All-new for 2025, this mid-size, authentic SUV is capable, dynamic, and durable. Toyota offers Canadians eight grades including the first-ever Platinum 4Runner plus the first-ever 4Runner Hybrid grades built around Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX electrified powertrain.

“The Toyota 4Runner is a go-anywhere, off-road icon – and the new sixth-generation model respects that legacy while introducing a cool new look and incredible features,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “We’re celebrating this capable all-new 4Runner with an incredible eight-model line-up, including four hybrids – each designed to impress with modern style, enhanced comfort, and industry-leading technology and safety.”

The 2025 4Runner starts with an all-new foundation – Toyota’s tough TNGA-F global truck platform, which is shared with Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra, and Sequoia. This platform boosts strength, improves ride comfort, and enhances on-road manners. On this, Toyota designers crafted a high lift, lean body riding on big tires for a rugged athleticism that expresses the core of 4Runner’s identity. Rugged with a purpose, 4Runner features legacy wrap-over quarter glass and retains the popular roll-down rear window.

Inside, designers created a cabin that emphasizes functionality and ease of operation. The 4Runner is available in a choice of five- or seven-passenger configurations, depending on grade.

Under the hood, Toyota offers a choice of powertrains:

  • The 4Runner features an i-FORCE turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine with active noise control, mated to an eight speed automatic transmission. This generates 278 peak horsepower and up to 317 lb-ft of torque. 4Runner models are offered in a choice of part-time 4WD or full-time 4WD, depending on grade.
  • The 4Runner Hybrid – the first electrified 4Runner – features an i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. This pairs the 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48 horsepower electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission, plus a 1.87-kWh nickel metal hydride battery pack. This is the most powerful powertrain ever offered on a 4Runner – generating a total system output of 326 horsepower and an awesome 465 lb-ft of torque. 4Runner Hybrid models are offered in a choice of part-time 4WD or full-time 4WD, depending on grade.

Every member of the 4Runner family is a technology showcase, headlined by the Toyota Multimedia system. This bundle of smart connectivity technologies helps keep drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. Toyota Multimedia integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s newest interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice. Many functions may be controlled via the touch screen via the same gestures used on mobile phone screens.

As a Toyota, every member of the 4Runner family also features an impressive bundle of active and passive safety technologies. All models feature Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, designed to enhance driver awareness, decision-making, and control. All models also feature the Toyota Star Safety system, eight airbags, the Blind Spot Monitor System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, backup camera with back guide monitor and rear camera washer, tire pressure monitoring system with auto location, and anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer.
